Come and discover fun ways to repurpose recycled goods into art and practical objects.
Students will glue, tape, string and paper mâché recycled materials to create original art pieces and give these recycled goods a second life. Trash-2-Treasure is taught by Maya Grafmuller, a designer and recycled art enthusiast. In her class students will learn how to use thoroughly cleaned recycled materials like plastic bottles and caps, cereal boxes, yogurt cups, paper towel rolls, package materials, etc., along with household items such as brads, tape, string & glue, to create small sculptures. Students will use safe scissors to cut cardboard and plastic, using brads, tape and string to attach materials together to create a three dimensional sculpture, then use flour, salt and water to make paper mâché to stiffen their sculpture, and finally paint and decorate it. Students will make things like animal figures, robots, planes and picture frames, just a few ideas I bring to the table. Students will be encouraged to come up with their own ideas and by the end of the course create their own designs. This class is very empowering for children. All materials are supplied by the instructor.
